Nikau palm II1243 viewsI enjoy looking at the natural environment around me and constantly find myself drawn to the wonderful forms of the New Zealand bush. In this piece I explore the contrasting shapes of the Nikau Palm – the soft curves and sharp angles of the fronds, the rough rings where old fronds have broken away and the smooth trunk, and the tangle of berries.

sea shell1167 viewsI found a broken shell on the beach which showed the beautiful soft curves of the inside we don't usually see. This was the basis of this idea.

fern bowl (top)1167 viewsLooking down on the fern bowl you can see the repeated swirls from the bowl down through the column. I like the feeling of movement.

fern bowl1163 viewsA few months ago I was asked to make a birdbath. I was given dimensions for the bowl, but after I started rounding out the outside I was emailed to say they had given me the wrong dimensions. For a long time the round top sat un-formed and alone, then one day I thought of this... based on fern leaves and fronds.
Stands 925mm high. Bowl 400mm across

Fate1159 viewsTwisting form - similiar to Mobius with more twists and more upright stance. When I was carving this life was going through a bit of a bad patch in my life and it made me think how life twists from going through a good phase, and then a bad, and then good... etc. I suppose we have to have the bad, to appreciate the good?

A Taste of Elegance1158 viewsThis is one of the most time consuming pieces I have ever carved! It took months - to carve out the bowl of the glass, drill thousands of holes to make the laceyness, shape the leaves, and the sanding was a nightmare.
But this piece while formal, is super elegant. I uplight it at night to show the shadows and form. Its one of my current favourites.

State of mind1154 viewsOur State of mind is a fragile and beautiful thing which can be destroyed by our own failings - slowly disintegrating making something that has the suggestion of what it once was - but which is now lost.

Floral lace1152 viewsI was really enjoying this piece in my garden, but in November 2011 some scumbag stole this piece and I now have no idea where it could be. If you see it anywhere could you contact me. I would really appreciate getting it back.
