fern bowl (top)564 viewsLooking down on the fern bowl you can see the repeated swirls from the bowl down through the column. I like the feeling of movement.Apr 23, 2007
dark side of the moon.jpg
Dark side of the Moon520 viewsOK. I admit it. Pink Floyd did come to mind several times when I was making this. Another of my 'weird phase' as my husband puts it... But I had fun making it.
Four pieces pinned together standing about 1.5metres tall.

Through the looking glass (Complete)606 viewsFinally after many months this statue is finally together. Murray thinks its the beginning of my 'crazy' stage. But I like it. It's fun and it makes me smile.
I've decided I want to keep this one so sorry its not for sale.

tui sundial1.jpg
Tui Sundial side 1516 viewsAround our place we have lots of tuis around in the spring when the Kowhai trees are flowering. I decided I couldn't do justice to Tuis if I tried to get them in proportion with a Kowhai tree so I decided on them squabbling over flax flowers instead.

Outside of the Square652 viewsWhile making 'Eye of the Needle' I had a few other ideas pop into my head. This is the second statue in this series exploring shapes and shadow interaction... And yes, I had fun making this one!
Total height 1400 mm

little sister.jpg
Little sister505 viewsOnly a small statue (only 44cm tall)
It is difficult to see in this photo but there is a nice flowing streak of iron oxide running through the stone which adds to the form and uniqueness of this piece

Eye of the Needle583 viewsI decided this was an important part of Queen 2 pawn 7 when I finished it. The other 2 pieces speak of the industrialization, pollution, and global warming and its effects. This piece shows the greed of man who stands and watches the destruction of the earth while doing nothing except make money. I also had the verse "Its easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven".
1250mm tall

sea shell533 viewsI found a broken shell on the beach which showed the beautiful soft curves of the inside we don't usually see. This was the basis of this idea.

spikey sea-shell691 viewsI actually dug a spikey shell out of our garden and have no idea how it got here so far from the sea. This is what gave me the idea for this statue which is slightly modified to allow for strength. I really like the contrast between the soft curves and the viscious looking spikes.
750mm tall

Stairway to heaven672 viewsI see the little grooves in this one as steps... but other people have told me that it reminds them of teeth??? (Can't see it myself)
Anyway, small statue - 360mm tall

Hope springs eternal...627 viewsSmall statue using flowing theme. When I was carving this the expression ' like getting blood from a stone' kept coming to mind, but I thought that was a bit yucky so I've named it something more hopeful and positive.
Stands 350mm tall
